BARBIE SLAVE SHIPLyon Biennale
12 September 2013 -- 5 January 2014

Barbie Slave Ship. The monumental new sculpture examines the links between slavery (control of the body) and advertising (control of the mind).

For the 12th Lyon Biennale, curators Gunnar B. Kvaran and Thierry Raspail have selected artists who use their work to experiment with the modalities and mechanisms of storytelling and, in doing so, undo mainstream narrative codes in order to tell stories differently.

Sachs’ work will be exhibited in Saint-Just Church, a national monument located near the remains of Lyon’s Gallo-Roman settlements on Fourvière Hill. The 5,382 square foot space will include 5 other sculptures and 2 paintings, all illustrated in the homemade publication.
